Happy 16 months Melody! Driver's Ed and a little under the weather

So we have started drivers ed at our house and boy it has been interesting.  We don't drive it a ton cause I think she has a love/hate relationship with it!  It gets kinda frustrating for her when she knows where she wants to go but doesn't end up going in that direction.  So anyway, we give it a go on days when we're feeling pretty ambitious!  Dora still rides with you everytime.
You wanted to wear your Dora dress this day and I just went with it.  You are always VERY specific on which one you want to wear.  Whether it be Dora, Belle, the tutu or my nightgown!
Max was pumped that you got a car!  You were ready to ride in his though.  I just sat back and flashed to the future and saw you riding down the rode with Max on your first date.  OH NO!  This Mama is NOT prepared for that kinda nonsense!  He was all driving crazy and pumping the gas on and off real fast.  I could hear you giggle and scream all the way down the road.  He was for sure impressing you.  It was probably best that Daddy didn't see any of that!  Oh, and I have the whole thing on video.  Just in case we need it in the future!
Oh, Melody.....your LOVE for Bubbi is so real!  It probably doesn't look like it since you're sitting on him, but you really are crazy for him!  I think you love Sunny too but for some reason you and Bubbi just click.  Poor guy, he just lets you do whatever.  Sometimes he even sleeps through it all!  On this day, you just walked up to him and sat on him.  Just out of nowhere.  I was pretty lucky to catch that on camera!
Here you are in Addison's baby doll crib.  I just glanced over one day cause it was quite in the playroom and this is what I saw!  I guess you thought you were the baby.  You also started standing in it.  We decided to be proactive and go ahead and put it up before an injury occurred.  We have had to do that to a few toys.  You just LOVE to climb and it wigs me out!  Addison NEVER did this at your age and the fact that you have only been walking for 2 months really shocks us.  You are very coordinated with everything and seems like you might be kinda sporty.  It's funny what different personalities you two have.  When Addison was your age she was saying around 60 words but just started walking and NEVER showed interest in climbing or testing things out.  While you are coordinated, you only say 7-10 words right now!
We finally turned you around in the carseat.  We got rid of the chicco carseat and got you the very same one as Addison.  We thought you would LOVE facing forward and watching movies with Addison but you have been kinda fussy ever since we made the change.  Maybe it's all new to you and you just aren't use to it yet?  It also could be that you cut a tooth over the past couple of weeks.  This was the first time you got to ride in it facing forward- kinda shocked I think!
Addison was excited and ready to go to school!  She was already into the movie and we were barely out of the driveway.
One day we were outside and Addison was painting and just started telling me what she was doing.  I was kinda not paying attention and then I happen to glance over and see that she was in fact painting a face!  She has never done that before and it is a huge deal to us!  A major milestone and something that they work on in occupational therapy.  She was saying, "Mommy, now I'm gonna draw some eyes, and now a nose, and then a mouth.....and so on and so on.  Pretty proud of my little girl:)  Yep, I texted these suckers out asap!
This one has ears and hair.  The orange in the pic is a previous painting.
And another super smart thing your doing is counting in Spanish!  You can go all the way to 7!  Pretty cool to hear you switch back and forth between Spanish and English when you count.  And this is where I have to say, "Thank you Dora!"  Yesterday morning you just barged into the kitchen and said, "Hola Mommy!"  So funny!
You came down with a virus and some bronchitis at the same time.  You basically took the week off from school and therapy and hung out at home.  I think you were pretty happy!  The first day you were camped out on the couch watching Dora.  So sweet and cuddly!
So when I took you to the doc she listened to your breathing and tried to say that you had a touch of mild asthma.  There was a little wheezing and so she talked alot about asthma and pushed the breathing treatments.  Matt and I are so not convinced about this asthma thing.  Until her allergy doc in Dallas says so, we will just keep on keeping on.  She has NEVER had any problems before and for heavens sake, she had BRONCHITIS!  I use to wheeze when I had bronchitis.  Ugh, whatever.  So, we did the silly breathing treatments and it was all right up her alley.  She LOVES anything medical that gives her some extra attention.  She would barely cough and then tell us that she needed a breathing treatment to help her breath.  Oh Lord.  It was a challenge when we told her we were doing the last treatment.  We talked it up and made it sound so great that we didn't have to do them again.  She was not happy about the news but eventually got over it.
Here we are sitting in your new BIG GIRL BED doing a treatment.  I'm pretty sure I called the last bed a "big girl bed", but it was really just a toddler bed.  THIS is a twin bed and is absolutely precious!  We are almost finished with your room and then I will post the final pics.  You ADORE it by the way:)

Oh Melody.......you are 16 months!!!  You are such a toddler and are into everything right now!  I really can't keep you out of much.  There is one thing you do that is hilarious/frustrating to me.  Anytime I'm folding clothes in the living room, you will immediately dart for on of the nice folded piles and destroy it one piece at a time (really fast).  I have gotten to where I guard all my stacks!  I will have my feet on two piles and my hands on another.  It really is funny.  I think it's just a nice reminder to me to stop doing silly chores during the day and just goof off with you girls.  Laundry will always be there, my little girls will not:(  You both are growing before my eyes and I try to spend all my time playing.  Every now and then I will sneak in a load of clothes.
Last week I decided to take your morning nap away.  You are our big sleeper (and eater) and if you can, you will sleep till 8:30 in the morning!  That is even with you going to bed at 7:30!  Our mornings are hectic and loud so sometimes you can't help but wake up.  So, cause you sometimes sleep a little later, it messes with the morning nap and pushes back the afternoon nap.  I had to keep Addison in mind since y'all take afternoon naps at the same time.  She is basically ready to hit the bed as soon as she comes home from school or therapy.  Anyway, it has worked out great and you kinda start getting tired around 11:30.  Usually you will snap out of it when Addison comes home and y'all goof around together.  I have been able to get out more with you and it has been so nice!  I no longer have to rush home to put you down after we drop Addison off at school!  I was hesitant to do all of this cause I didn't take Addison's away until she was around 20 months.  But I know every kid is different!
You are STILL my cuddly little love bug.  I sometimes describe you like a monkey.  The way you cling to me when you are on my hip is hilarious!  You will wrap your arm up under mine and just hold on so tight.  I love it!
You also growl like a tiger everytime you see an animal.  You believe every animal makes that noise!  You just love Mike the tiger!  It sounds more like a bobcat growl too!
You have got the sweetest temperment and just LOVE all the time.  You really love to push your sister's buttons!  AND she gets sooo mad at you!  You will watch her and see what she is playing with or loves the most at that moment and then you will sneak it away and run as fast as you can!  This is usually the reason for most of the screaming/crying.  I find it kinda funny though!  You keep her on her toes that's for sure.  You still love to dance and can find a beat in anything.  You try to snap your fingers while we sing/dance.  It's precious cause you do both hands at once and hold them up and get those little thumbs a movin'!
You will eat just about anything and I love that!  You also take your milk very seriously.  I never have to worry about your calcium intake.  I remember having to count ounces when Addison went to whole milk in the cup.  She just never would take enough and I was always worried about that!  Funny how at the time that seemed like SUCH a big deal and it was just freaking me out.  OH HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!  How in the world did I "worry" about those little things?  I'm telling ya, 2011 really put things into perspective for me.  Now I know when to pull out the worry card!
You are just flying all over this house and getting faster by the day.  I really can't believe you just started walking 2 months ago.  You love to have conversations with me even though I don't know what you're saying.  I will just nod my head and talk back to you.  You really know what you wanna say!  They sound like long mumbled sentences.  Precious!

Christmas 2011

Oh Christmas was so much fun this year!  Some of these might be out of order but I will just tell the stories.  On Christmas Eve we stayed at our house (we have decided to do this for the girls so that they will be in their own house on Christmas morning).  Matt and I attempted our first Gumbo- pretty brave to do that on Christmas Eve!  I will say it was pretty darn good but we are excited to try again in the future.  We also made Christmas cookies and had Laura, Clay and Lilly over to help.  Addison just ate cookies for dinner as you can see.  AND I let her.  I'm just not that kind of parent that won't let their kid have sweets!  She certainly doesn't do this often but I just love the joy in her eyes and know that you are only a kid once!!

All afternoon the girls ran around the house and just goofed off with one another.

Here is Addison digging into the cookies and icing.  I had to laugh cause I didn't add enough food coloring for the red and it just turned out to be a nice shade of pink!  I do love pink and green:)

This little lady is SERIOUS about her icing!  She was very quiet the entire time and just got down to business!

Melody enjoyed a few bites too!

Eating the icing right off the spoon!
Ok, so the girls go to bed and we start working!  This poor little jeep has been given to Addison SOOO many times only for us to realize she wasn't ready to drive!  We have stored it at my parents house for a long time and we were excited to bring it home!  Well, this was the year.  She has loved it and gets better with every driving lesson.  The wheel is a little stiff to steer but she is figuring it out.  For the first few times I would be bent over steering for her while it sped off with Melody on my hip!  That has worn me out!  She has run over my foot twice and almost hit Melody so it is best to just carry her on the hip.  I always wanted one of these cars as a kid and really kinda still do:)  SOOO, I decided to hop on in!  It was pretty rainy the few days after Christmas so we let her just drive it in the house.  We would go a few feet then have to turn her around.  This went on forever and she loved it!
One day in Hobby Lobby Addison wanted a Dora ornament.  I cringed cause I knew it was breakable but she insisted on having it and it was 50% off (as is everything from Hobby Lobby).  Sooo, off to the house we went with our new breakable Dora ornament.  Within 30 minutes that sucker was in little pieces all over the kitchen floor.  We avoided the meltdown by telling her to ask Santa for a soft Dora that doesn't break.  So, she ran to the front window and looked out at our big blow up Santa and asked him just that.  On Christmas morning she was so excited and kept saying that it was a "soft Dora that doesn't break."  and sometimes she will say, "I want my soft Dora that doesn't break."  She will even try to prove her point by throwing it up in the air and letting it hit the floor and will say, "Look! It didn't break!"  So, Santa had put Dora in the jeep with a helmet on!
We had been talking about what to get Melody and just thought it would be silly to go out and buy all these toddler toys that we already have (that Addison has outgrown).  We keep them in a closet and pull them out when Melody is ready for them.  We would have just bought the same things!  So, we dug everything out and found the coolest things that we knew she would love.  She is sooo musical and we found neat radios and drum sets and stuffed animals.  We also knew this would probably be the last year we could get away with this!  Our biggest worry was if Addison would call us out on it since she has such a great memory.  She never said a thing!  It was so weird going through all those toys too cause they were things Addison played with when she was 17 months old.  Just seems like yesterday.  Even after all that, Santa didn't disappoint!  He made sure Melody AND Addison had their very own NEW toys.  He was so thoughtful.  He wrapped all of Addison's gifts and left Melody's unwrapped since he knew she was too young to do it herself!
This is when she first came out of her room.  She was SO talkative but very calm about the whole situation!  We didn't know what to expect.
We we SOOO proud of Addison's attitude the whole day.  We were pretty concerned leading up to it.  She does best with just a few toys.  When there are too many new things she gets really overwhelmed and easily frustrated.  I would too!  I wouldn't know where to start if I had all these cool things laying around the house.

Melody LOVED her radio!  She was jammin' out right here!  I do love her bed head!
Addison found a sweet little crown in her stocking.  Melody now enjoys wearing it like sunglasses.

Diggin' through the stocking!

This is so much fun!
Melody found a really cool Elmo phone.  She loves to pretend that everything is a phone- remotes, pens, water bottles....
Addison also got the whole Little Mermaid crew!  Here she is admiring Sebastian.

And Santa never forgets the pups.  They got bones in their stockings and looks like Melody stole a few for herself!

Santa was really hungry and loved the Christmas cookies that we made.  For breakfast we had our homemade cinnamon rolls that are AMAZING!  This has become a tradition for us and we like to make them every year and hand them out to friends and family.  We doubled the recipe this year and we may have to triple it next time!  We brought 2 huge pans to Ruston for brunch and they were a hit!  Nona especially loved them- I was so glad she did cause when she likes something, you know it's gotta be good!
When we were at Totsie and Papas guess who showed up??  We were all in the living room and he just walked up on the deck!  The girls have never seen him in person.  Addison did amazing and wanted to go to him immediately and Melody had a very normal reaction!
Here she is waving to Santa through the window.

Not totally sure about this!

Isn't this priceless??  It's like one of those pictures that you would send to a show!  Poor Melody.  I picked her up right after that though.  Had to get the shot!

Hangin' out with Nona

Totsie and Papa got them this pink baby grand piano.  They sure do love it!  But when we got home we had to take the stool away (Melody is a big time climber) and take the legs off.  So for now, it's just flat on the floor and they sit right in front of it and play away.

Papa also insisted on giving them this.  Melody sure does love it- musical I tell ya.

I believe Melody had just stolen something from Addison and was making a run for it!  She's got that look!  Too funny and always keeps it entertaining at our house.
Uncle Ned came by for a visit on his way back to Dallas.  We don't get to see him often, so he is always amazed at Addison's progress!
